Milan v Rome, and Other City Derbies
In La Lega, the Italian Restaurant League, Rome has nine ranked restaurants and Milan eight, but three of Milan’s are in Serie A: Autem, second in the world, Enrico Bartolini al Mudec (12th) and Seta (joint 20th). Rome has none.
Rome’s highest-placed restaurant is Aroma, joint 23rd with 92.3 points, 0.2 short of the Serie A line. Milan’s median score is 89.9, Rome’s 88.1.
New York has eight ranked restaurants, the most of any city outside Italy, plus Rezdôra, which is still qualifying. Roscioli NYC, third, is its only entry in Serie A or Serie B. London and Cape Town have seven each: London’s best is Bancone in Covent Garden, seventh, and Cape Town’s is The Cousins Trattoria, joint 36th.
Of the cities with at least five ranked restaurants, Florence has the highest median, 91.7, with Il Palagio in Serie A and Trattoria Sostanza and Enoteca Pinchiorri in Serie B. Paris has five and none in the top two divisions; its best, Caffè Stern, is joint 51st.
The comparison covers the 13 cities with at least three ranked restaurants. Entries listed with a neighbourhood or suburb, such as Trastevere in Rome and Claremont and Sea Point in Cape Town, are counted with their city. City views are slices of one world table; La Lega does not produce separate city scores. See the full La Lega table.
