Same Name, Different Divisions
Nine restaurant families, linked by a restaurant or chef name, have more than one entry in La Lega, the Italian Restaurant League. Most are far apart. The exception is Agli Amici: the restaurant in Udine is joint 183rd with 84.1 points, and Agli Amici Rovinj, in Croatia, is four places higher, joint 179th with 84.2.
Roscioli NYC is third in the world with 95.7 points. Roscioli Salumeria con Cucina in Rome, where the name began, is joint 102nd with 88.3. Of the five families with restaurants both in Italy and abroad, only Roscioli and Agli Amici have the restaurant abroad placed higher, and only Roscioli by a wide margin.
In the other three, the restaurant in Italy leads. Da Vittorio’s flagship in Brusaporto is sixth with 94.7; Da Vittorio Shanghai is joint 149th with 86.0, 8.7 points lower. Enoteca Pinchiorri is joint 31st in Florence and joint 118th in Nagoya. Don Alfonso 1890 has the widest spread, 9.2 points, from joint 64th in Sant’Agata sui Due Golfi to joint 104th in Macau and joint 211th in Toronto.
Outside Italy, Umberto Bombana’s Cannubi in Bangkok (joint 29th) is 128 places above 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana in Hong Kong (joint 157th), and Il Ristorante – Niko Romito is joint 118th in Dubai and joint 175th in Bali. Within Italy, the three restaurants carrying Enrico Bartolini’s name run from 12th (al Mudec, Milan) to joint 154th (La Trattoria, Castiglione della Pescaia), and LAQUA by the Lake in Pettenasco (joint 43rd) is 68 places above LAQUA Countryside in Vico Equense (joint 111th).
Each restaurant has its own entry and its own points. Two restaurants called Tosca (Hong Kong and Paris), two called Ferraro’s (Miami and Las Vegas) and two called Materia (Antwerp and Cernobbio) are not treated as families. Use the comparison above for any two of the 216 ranked restaurants, or open the full La Lega table.
