Κίνημα Αλλαγής / Kinima Allagis (PASOK-KINAL / Movement for Change)
EU RANK: 93 (Tier 3: Moderate Performance)
PASOK-KINAL is a centre-left social-democratic alliance formed around the historic Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), emphasising welfare-state protection, progressive taxation, labour rights and pro-European integration within fiscal responsibility. After years in opposition following the debt crisis, it has regained ground and now holds the third-largest parliamentary group, positioning itself as a moderate alternative to both New Democracy and SYRIZA. The party supports strong democratic institutions, judicial independence and transparent governance.
Disinformation and alternative media
PASOK-KINAL relies primarily on mainstream broadcasters, legacy press and its own digital channels; it does not control or systematically use alternative-media ecosystems. Research on Greek media dynamics shows the party occasionally criticised for selective framing in campaign materials, but there is no evidence of centrally coordinated disinformation campaigns or reliance on conspiratorial narratives. It is more often a target of disinformation from radical-left and radical-right actors than an originator. Disinformation/alternative media DMI risk is low.
Foreign influence and external alignments
PASOK-KINAL is explicitly pro-EU and pro-NATO, backing Greece’s strategic alliances, support for Ukraine and multilateral engagement. Litigation and investigative records from 2015–2025 show no structural financial dependence on hostile foreign governments, though historical PASOK was involved in older corruption scandals that predated the current leadership’s reforms. The party operates within Greece’s regulated campaign-finance system and receives public subsidies proportional to its vote share. Foreign influence DMI risk is low.
Media capture, advertising and public service media
Historically, PASOK held significant informal influence over public broadcaster ERT and some private outlets, especially during its dominance in the 1980s–2000s. Current research indicates the party no longer exercises systematic control over ERT governance, though it retains informal networks in parts of the media landscape and benefits from sympathetic coverage in some outlets. It uses standard campaign advertising and does not dominate state advertising flows at present, but legacy ties and occasional efforts to shape media appointments suggest moderate residual influence. Media capture, advertising and PSB-control DMI risk is moderate.
Corruption, litigation and institutional integrity
Court records from 2015–2025 document ongoing litigation tied to older PASOK-era scandals (especially pre-2010 procurement and state-contract cases), though many involve figures no longer active in the current leadership. Post-crisis reforms and leadership changes have improved internal transparency, yet the party’s historical baggage and some lingering controversies around funding and appointments keep integrity concerns elevated relative to newer parties. Funding analysis shows a mix of public subsidies, membership dues and private donations, with compliance to Greek disclosure rules but occasional lapses flagged by audit authorities. DMI corruption and institutional integrity risk is moderate.
Press freedom, harassment and treatment of media
PASOK-KINAL publicly supports press freedom, opposes censorship and backs legal protections for journalists. Party figures occasionally criticise media coverage as biased or sensationalist, but there is no pattern of systematic harassment, organised online mobs or SLAPP-type litigation against critical outlets. The party cooperates with media-freedom organisations and supports transparency reforms in media ownership and public-broadcasting governance. Press freedom and harassment DMI risk is low.
