Centerpartiet (C – Centre Party)
EU RANK: 14 (Tier 1: Top Performance)
Centerpartiet describes itself as a green, freedom-oriented party, with pragmatism and decentralisation at the core of its political identity. The party won 6.71% (24 seats) in the 2022 Riksdag election and 7.29% (2 seats) in the 2024 European Parliament elections. Following the 2022 election, the Centre Party positioned itself primarily in opposition rather than joining the Tidö Agreement coalition, reflecting its new leader’s explicit opposition to SD accommodation. Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist was elected party leader in November 2025, succeeding Muharrem Demirok.
Disinformation and alternative media
Centerpartiet has no party-owned media outlet and is not associated with a partisan or conspiratorial media ecosystem. The party relies on mainstream media and its own digital communication channels. There is no documented pattern of disinformation operations or coordinated inauthentic behaviour attributable to the party. Disinformation and alternative-media DMI risk is low.
Foreign influence and external alignments
Centerpartiet is a pro-EU, liberal party with no documented ties to hostile foreign states or their financing channels. Its positioning within the Renew Europe family at EU level reflects a clear pro-Western alignment. The party’s funding derives primarily from public subsidies — approximately SEK 22 million in state party subsidies for 2024/25 — with no identified foreign-source funding concerns. Foreign-influence DMI risk is low.
Media capture, advertising and public service media
As an opposition party since 2022, Centerpartiet has no leverage over public service broadcasting governance or state-advertising flows. The party has participated in parliamentary and public debates about press subsidy design and local journalism sustainability, generally defending pluralism and PSB independence. Media-capture, advertising and PSB-control DMI risk is low.
Corruption, litigation and institutional integrity
The party’s litigation profile over 2015–2025 is limited. Sweden’s corruption enforcement predominantly manifests through individual municipal cases rather than sustained party-level prosecutions, and no major corruption or fraud cases centred on Centerpartiet elected officials or its organizational structures have been identified for this period. The party’s most visible legal exposure has been defamation and administrative-law disputes involving individual officials, consistent with the broader Swedish pattern. Corruption and institutional-integrity DMI risk is low.
Press freedom, harassment and treatment of media
Centerpartiet has not been associated with harassment of journalists, SLAPP-style litigation, or economic pressure on media outlets. The party’s general orientation — emphasising freedom and pluralism — is broadly aligned with press freedom values. Press-freedom and harassment DMI risk is low.
